Dougs Fish Fry

I have only been coming here for 30 years so I think it's time for a review! Doug's is the definitive upstate NY fish fry. Delicious food and I cannot overemphasize that they prepare your order when you order it, resulting in fresh, hot food everytime you come! Doug's seafood sourcing methods are well known so I won't dwell on it except to say that it works! Great fish fries and slaw, as the lord intended it. Also, don't sleep on the Tuesday clams!

For about $17 I got a large fish sandwich, large drink, a cup of beans and a cup of coleslaw. I didn’t think this was a bad price. The food was nothing to get excited about…it was ok, but it filled the hole. I would probably go back.

Great food! Super Service to our motor coach from friendly, smiling employee! They delivered to our handicap vehicle in the parking lot across from them, as I could not leave my husband alone to go in. Excellent fish, delicious perfectly cooked shrimp, with plentiful onion rings and side! Worth while to exit the interstate for this place. I’m so glad we stopped.

If the enticement of enticement of fried food is calling, Doug’s has the answer! We sampled a number of items and all were solid in their respective categories. The haddock (which we ordered without a bun) was surprisingly meaty and had great texture, definitely a step above what I was expecting of a faster food fish and chips. Most impressive to me were the shrimp and bang bang shrimp. Even at mid range restaurants, where wait staff takes your order, the batter seems to be hiding inferior shrimp; not so at Doug’s. The shrimp were also meaty and moist and a bit larger than I had expected. The caramel sauce on the pre-portioned custard Sundaes stood out with buttery sweetness, however, the “Phone Home” with peanut butter was our favorite, followed by the caramel, fudge and Oreo, then the Snickers, fudge and caramel. Online ordering was a little unclear when trying to order combination meals. Staff were friendly and helpful at pickup. I anticipate going back for the haddock (and the Bang Bang if I want fried shrimp).

1st time trying this restaurant. Generous portion of fish. Huge serving of Onion rings. Mac and cheese was good. Coleslaw was good. Has celery in it, its not sweet. The have tarter sauce, and malt vinegar for fish. We tried the fry sauce and onion sauce. I'd suggest the onion sauce for the onion rings. Restaurant is a bit dated. But clean. Restroom was clean and didn't stink.

The food was pretty good, staff was very quick to help. Honestly the fish was good but the chicken was amazing. Not many choices in cortland and this is worth a try if you like fish. A little on the expensive side but kind of expected due to where they are located.
